May - when true spring shines through. When the sky is ever changing and wild flowers cover the hills that surround town. Everything’s blooming and green, which is exclusive to this time year here in western Montana. The transition to spring is always my favorite. It’s the precursor to summer and if you tend to hold onto the nostalgia and feeling of nearing summer vacation as I do, then it’s an extra special time. Ajax and I took a camping trip for the first time in months. It was overdue and downright cold at night, but still resulted in that same summer time feeling of freedom.
May’s fuel is short & sweet - I’ve got a few things in the works, coming to you soon.
Coffee
Nothing hits quite as hard as 4:30 am coffee on the tailgate before a big day in the backcountry, this cup was no different. I’ve been drinking a light roasted Columbia Natural - fruity, sangria, sorta boozy and delicious.
Location
Trout Lake, WA. I’m dedicating an entire post to this one. Coming soon- here’s a teaser.
Read
You can’t go to Trout Lake without reading Momentum by Pete Vordenberg. It’s the whole reason Ajax and I know about the place and a good read if you’ve got any ties to Cross Country skiing. It’s a memoir written about Pete’s dream of making it to the Olympics and the path it took to get there. A good chunk of his training took place in Trout Lake. It felt wrong not to read while there.
Record
Nothing we have on vinyl and I can’t say I’d even want it, but “Look Away” by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils filled the empty space in the truck, while driving around with the windows down as one does in late spring.
Photo
Date night at The Big Dipper
Shot on Canon Sureshot Telemax 35mm | Kodak Porta 40
Misc.
This photo was taken the last day we had access to our rental on the Northside. We’d been there almost every day since we bought it and all the sudden I can’t even drive by without feeling like a creep. We’re so very grateful things are all working out, but we love that little house and it’s hard to not think of making a home out of it.
Someday.
Talk soon-
